Well Registration Program

Oct 22, 2025 | News

Purpose

On November 13, 2024, the Kaweah Subbasin Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs) adopted the 2024 Second Amended Groundwater Sustainability Plans (GSPs). As a part of GSPs, Well Registration Programs were established. The Well Registration Program aims to register wells in Mid-Kaweah GSA for the purposes of greater understanding of groundwater conditions and groundwater management strategies. Well Registration involves landowners providing information on their wells such as location, use and status. Agricultural, domestic, industrial, and retired (not-yet-destroyed) wells are being sought as a part of the Well Registration process. It is important for the agencies tasked with groundwater management to work with the most accurate and current data. The Well Registration effort is driven by the need to improve the MKGSAs understanding of localized pumping risks and impacts. The robust data collected by the Well Registration effort allows the MKGSA and their technical teams to be better equipped to understand threats to groundwater sustainability and to better plan for the financial needs to achieve sustainability.
